“Re-adapt the Ruin” – A Unique International Opportunity in Sustainable Urban Regeneration
New Building School (Jaunās Būvniecības skola) – the first higher education institution in Latvia dedicated to sustainable construction- is inviting students and teaching staff from higher education institutions within Europe to take part in a unique international learning experience that blends theory, hands-on practice, and real community impact. The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Re-adapt the Ruin” will soon bring together participants from across Europe to collaborate on innovative approaches to urban regeneration.
The programme is divided into two parts:
Online collaboration
On-site workshop
This is more than a study programme — it is an opportunity to be part of a real-life revitalization process, working alongside leading professionals and civic initiatives shaping the future of Europe’s built environment.
Strong partners, meaningful experience
Participants will have the chance to collaborate with:
NOMAD Architects – one of Latvia’s most forward-thinking architecture studios, known for their community-focused and sustainable design projects. They are also the curators of the Latvian Pavilion at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, where they represent Latvia in one of the world’s most important architectural forums.
“House Europe!” – a European civic initiative advocating for the preservation and creative reuse of architectural heritage, encouraging cross-border collaboration and cultural engagement.
Mind Work Ramps – an experienced team specializing in the design and construction of skate ramps. Together with the participants, they will design and build a real skate ramp for the local youth community — a lasting, functional structure that contributes to the regeneration of an abandoned urban area.
